In this social media run world we are growing into not much attention is given to actual face-to-face communication anymore. It is important to stay up to date with new technologies but that is no excuse to leave behind all knowledge of what preceded. With all the amazing advances in the online world of social media in just the last 9 months it is hard to believe that there was once a time when businesses had to actually cold-call and send mass/non-personal direct mail to hundreds of prospects.

We are truly becoming a global society, which is amazing for marketers. The harder it is to gain the consumers attention the more effort marketers must make to reach them on a personal level. The reason this is good for marketers, and the consumer, is that it will separate the hard-working passionate entrepreneurs from the lazy ones. Because it is hard to gain consumers attention due to over crowded mediums businessmen must be creative and extremely strategic with their efforts.

Take twitter for example, a beautiful marketing gem that is accepted and used by the masses. It is very easy to use and for that reason has really taken the entire world by storm. But because it has grown so large it is hard for marketers to really gain the attention for potential consumers. It is over crowded, filled with so much BLAH that the individuals with relevant things to say  are stampeded by all kinds of mumbo jumbo. It can still be utilized though, it just takes creativity and hard work to gain the attention of those that may need your service.

Life and business are all about connections. It is how we manage all these connections, friends, business deals etc. that determine how successful we will become. Technology is helping us connect with clients and friends easier. Technology helps establish relationships with people that we otherwise might not have had the opportunity to meet, which is amazing and something to really cherish, but we can’t forget to actually foster the relationships we create on all these different social media platforms.

The main goal for every social network is to create and establish meaningful relationships. It is imperative that we actually create relationships though and not neglect personal interaction by simply chalking up new contacts as just another “follower”.

For businesses the only way to create a sustainable brand is through trust and the way to create trust is through PERSONAL relationships. Don’t get lazy and neglect your connections with people. Use the tools you have to help build trust-filled relationships. Always be cognizant of the needs of other people and remember the point of on-line businesses connections is to connect off-line!! Connect on-line to meet, in person, like the good ol days 🙂
